Can I Patent My Invention Internationally?

There is no such thing as an “international” patent.  In other words, patents are national rights, you have to get a separate patent in each country where you desire protection.  That being said, there is something called an “International Application” or “PCT Application” that can streamline the process.  In essence, an inventor files a single “International Application” and then elects individual countries in which to pursue protection.  Below is a timeline and diagram that describes the process.
